July 27 – 30, 2012

HORSEMANSHIP 1                                                                                         Friday - Monday, 9:00 - 12:00 pm                                                                    Concessions and lunch will be available at clinic

 The horsemanship 1 class is for horses that can be saddled and ridden.  It is designed for riders who want to improve their horsemanship and their horse’s abilities.  Buck will demonstrate several ways to improve your horses’ balance, suppleness and sensitivity to your cues.  He will show you how to improve communication between the rider and horse which will allow you to use less pressure and make your horse more willing and accurate in all his movements. 

 Limited to 25 horses and riders.
 

 HORSEMANSHIP 2                                                                                      Friday - Monday, 1:30 - 4:30 PM

Hackamore - Bridle Class                                                                                                                                                                                                             Concessions and lunch will be available at clinic

For the refinement of both horse and rider

 This class will be a Horsemanship 2 class without cattle. All roping will be done on roping dummies.

1.         For experienced riders and experienced horses.

 

2.         If one of the two is green, then please register for Horsemanship 1.

 

3.         Horse and rider should be able to perform the following maneuvers

 

a.   Ride a smooth circle, at trot and lope on a loose rein with a round body, nose looking into the circle with the front quarters and hindquarters reaching evenly.

 

b.   Simple lead changes (preferably flying lead changes)

 

c.   Counter canter

 

d.   Simple spins

 

e.   Gentle horse (not spooky)

 

f.    Horse should be comfortable to rope on. We will use roping dummies.

 

g.   Good control of horse's hindquarters at all times

 

4.         Horse should be in a hackamore, two rein or straight up in the bridle.  Can be in snaffle bit, ready to go into the hackamore.  If this is the case, please bring a good rawhide core bosal with a mecate for Buck to fit to your horse.

5.         Please be honest about your ability and the ability of your horse, Buck will not work on basic horsemanship, taking time away from those qualified to be in this class.  Also, with limited enrollment, we do not want to turn away qualified participants by enrolling unqualified participants.  If you have any doubt in your ability or the ability of your horse, please enroll in Horsemanship 1.  Limited to 15 riders and horses.

All participants required to complete waiver upon registration.  Guardians must sign for minors.  Please notify us if guardian will not attend clinic and we will mail a waiver form.  Minor will not be allowed to participate if waiver is not signed by guardian before the class starts.

Horse must be wormed prior to arriving on fair grounds property.  Proof of current vaccinations and health certificate and Negative Coggin’s test must be sent ahead of arriving or be in hand before unloading.  Horses  must be vaccinated with the following (At least 3 weeks in advance):

- Individual Stalls $15.00 for first night (includes first bedding) , $10.00 each additional night/day does not   include hay.  Additional shavings are available for $7.00 a bag. Fairgrounds require all stalls have bedding at all times.

Deposit required:                  $300.00 (non-refundable unless true emergency)

NOTE:                                     Bring Snaffle Bit.

Horse Boarding:

Gallatin County Fairgrounds Individual stalls are available at $15.00 for first night (includes first bedding), $10.00 each additional night/day does not include hay.  Fairgrounds require all stalls have bedding at all times.  Shavings are available for $7.00 a bag. Camping Facilities: 

Available at Gallatin County Fairgrounds with or without services. For clinic attendees - $20.00 a night with hook-up, $15.00 with no hook-up.  Please make arrangements with Fairgrounds Management at (406) 582-3270 or contact a private campground.       

GENERAL INFORMATION:

            All Fees must be paid by June 1, 2012

•     Participants are encouraged to observe the other class at no extra charge. 

•     Pre-registration required.  There will be a $25.00 late fee if registering day of clinic.

•     No Video Cameras allowed during clinic.

•     Concessions: Drinks and snacks will be available all day.  Lunch will be ordered daily from local restaurants. Lunch orders must be turned in and paid for at the registration desk by 10 AM each day.
